Arun Leisure Centre Squash Club welcomes anyone interested in playing squash, we are a small club run by its members providing access to friendly and organised competitive games of squash for players of different abilities, from beginners up to regular squash players, that would like to play for fun, fitness and/or improve their game. We run internal leagues, monthly club nights and annual competitions for all interested members as well as entering teams in the Sussex County Squash Leagues. We also have two Level 2 and one Level 1 England Squash licensed coaches, fully insured and CBR checked, offering group and individual squash coaching sessions.

We have two England Squash and Racketball licensed coach, fully insured and CBR checked, offering group and individual squash coaching sessions. Keep an eye on the website or Noticeboard for up and coming group sessions.

Beginners/Improvers sessions are usually held on Saturday mornings from 10:20 am to 11:40 am.

Improvers/Intermediates sessions are usually held on Wed from 7 pm to 8:20 pm

INTERNAL LEAGUE RULES

  1. The purpose of the internal league is fun, social yet competitive
  2. The leagues will be run over a 5 to 6 week period and league tables will be emailed, posted on the club noticeboard and this website.
  3. Points system will be as follows:
    • Scoring:
    • 3 - 0 scores 6 - 1
    • 3 - 1 scores 5 - 2
    • 3 - 2 scores 4 - 3
    • 2 - 2 scores 3 - 3
    • 2 - 1 scores 3 - 2
    • 2 - 0 scores 3 - 1
    • 1 - 1 scores 2 - 2
    • 1 - 0 scores 2 - 1
    • No challenge 3 - 0
    • No show 6 - 0
  1. Responsibility for arranging matches.
    • 1 challenges 3,5 & 6
    • 2 challenges 1,4 & 6
    • 3 challenges 2,5 & 6
    • 4 challenges 1 & 3 (7)*
    • 5 challenges 2 & 4 (7)*
    • 6 challenges 4 & 5 (7)*
    • 7 challenges 1,2 & 3*

* If there are seven players in the league

  1. The scoring will be English Rules best of 5 games or point a rally (par) to 15, if both players agree. At 14 all, player wins by 2 clear points.
  2. The Rules of Play shall be those in the current edition of the England Squash Annual Handbook. In addition the current England Squash Code of Conduct shall be observed at all times.
  3. At the end of the league period; promotion and relegation will occur for the top two and bottom two players of any league into the next league up or down respectively. If the points are tied with any players, a decision will be made in favour of the player that won their match between the two. If players are still tied, the decision will be based on matches won and lost, then games won and lost.
  4. If a match is not played by the end of the league period the League Organiser will award 3 points against the challenger as if there was a “No Challenge”. Unless the challenger has advised the League Organiser beforehand that challenges have continually been refused.
  5. Any disputes about player behaviour or results should be submitted to the League Organiser by post or email within 14 days of the event, who is empowered to make decisions on all queries or disputes that have been received. However, at the League Organisers discretion a Code of Conduct matter may be referred to the Committee. The Committees decision will be final.
  6. Payment of squash courts should be shared between players.
  7. The ball to be used for all matches should be double yellow dot although single yellow dot is acceptable if agreed between players.
  8. If players are unable to continue playing in the leagues for whatever reason they must inform the League Organiser at the earliest opportunity. Any matches played will be declared void and the player will automatically be given no points.
  9. Players are expected to score themselves and call their own lets and strokes. Please try to remain as fair as possible in accepting this

MEMBERS CODE OF CONDUCT 

  1. In addition the current England Squash Code of Conduct the following rules of conduct will also apply:
    • Think safety first. Hold up on your shot rather than risk injury to your opponent.
    • Abide by the tournament and playing rules and those of squash etiquette.
    • Play your best at all times.
    • Be honest and fair to your opponent.
    • Give your opponent the benefit of the doubt. Accept your opponent's calls.
    • Ask for a let only if you think you could have reached the ball.
    • Offer a let point whenever you know you failed to clear fully and obstructed your opponent's shot.
    • If you doubt your own get, call it "not up."
    • Don't argue. Play a let if you cannot agree.
    • Don't try to "psych" your opponent except by the excellence of your game.
    • Win and lose in the spirit of good sportsmanship. 

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURE 

  1. The procedures detailed below will be used in the handling of all disciplinary matters concerning members. The exact nature of the offence will determine the appropriate course of action in any particular situation. All members will be treated impartially and no acts of favouritism or discrimination will be permitted.
  2. A member will render himself/herself liable to disciplinary action if the Rules of the Club for members are continually breached.
  3. The member will be informed of the nature of the breach as laid against him/her as soon as possible and will have the opportunity and the right to state their case before any decision regarding the appropriate disciplinary action is taken.
  4. When the facts have been established and responsibility is clear, disciplinary action can comprise of one of the following:
i. Verbal warning
ii. Written warning
iii. Termination of membership
